I’ve been throwing this term around as much as possible in 2011. The Karma economy, it’s an extension of social responsibility in business, but so much more. It is not a pandering thing, you have to really believe in it. Social responsibility can be easily manipulated, for every packet we will buy a goat in africa! Never mind that’s less than 0.1% of their profits, it’s a marketing trick more than anything.
No the Karma economy is more personal. What are you doing to help others, in business, in life and how does that impact on you in return. Most people work 9-5 then go home and veg on the sofa! What if they took their evenings to help out in their local community? Would they be happier, would they appreciate their job more, would they be inspired to change careers? How many of you reading this actually like your job. I often talk to people who seem to detest their jobs, they hate being there, can the money be that good?
I believe that my recent actions and decisions since March 2011, the websites I agreed to do for little money, the volunteering, helping those new to Belfast, have paid off, I feel better about myself, I appreciate what I have, and I hope it has prepared me for what lies ahead, good or bad. I’ve had the time I invested returned to me ten fold.
The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, he said:
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present;
the result being that he does not live in the present or the future;
he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
more on the Karma Economy to come, but I’m also trying to be more regimental about my blogging, it’s already been 2 months, bad Michael, Bad!
